As China’s power and economic influence have grown, the state has pursued its interests and asserted its worldview more actively. The Chinese Communist Party has concluded that the world is going through ‘profound changes unseen in a century‘ and that China is now taking its place as a great power in Asia. Managing relations with China in this ‘new era’ is more challenging than at any other time this century.
